Work on Deer Creek Bridge underway

The Deer Creek Bridge on Highway 3 in the RM of Frenchman Butte is getting a $4.4 million upgrade from the Saskatchewan government.

Motorists have been using one lane since about April 15 and with the project’s scope, the contractor may sometimes need to close the bridge completely for a few minutes, notes the RM.

So far, most of the work was to prepare the bridge for milling and demolition. This week crews are milling the existing bridge deck asphalt to expose the deck concrete.

Also, the repairs will see the replacement of expansion joints which allows the bridge to absorb temperature-induced expansion and contraction.

Traffic will be reduced to one-way travel and controlled by traffic lights, says Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways.

Residents and motorists can expect a very busy work site that’s quite dusty, and expect delays.

The work is listed to last over the next few months until Oct. 18.
