Local athletes take gold at Saskatchewan Winter Games

Some young Lloydminster athletes will have some gold to take home from the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford.

12 year old Kaibrie Lumbard took home gold for her first Sask Games, beating out 14 other athletes ranging from 11 to 16 in the solo synchronized swimming event. Lloydminster also dominated in judo, with Devrie Johnston and Jessen Brust taking gold in the women’s and men’s judo competition, Brooklyn Bloch-Hansen and Ryley James McGarry winning silver and Avery McGarry and Marrisa Howdle taking women’s bronze.

The Rivers West team, which has athletes from Lloydminster, The Battlefords, Biggar, Meadow Lake, Rosetown and Kindersley are in fourth place for medals as of Thursday, with 14 gold, 14 silver and 8 bronze medals. They will be competing in bowling, curling and hockey Friday.
