Woman dead in collision on Highway 17 north of Lloydminster

A 34-year old woman has died after a head-on collision on Highway 17, five miles north of Lloydminster.

On Sunday, Maidstone RCMP shut down both lanes of the highway at about 4:30 p.m. after the collision took place and reopened at about 10:30 p.m. Police say a van was travelling northbound and a pickup truck was heading southbound when both vehicles collided head-on. The woman was found dead at the scene.

An 11-year old girl who was the daughter of the deceased woman was in the van at the time of the collision and was transported to the Lloydminster Hospital where she was later released. The 81-year old driver of the pickup truck was also transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. All the people involved in the incident were from Lloydminster.

RCMP say the collision took place on the northbound shoulder and that the pickup truck was in the wrong lane. The mounties will continue to investigate but say both vehicles appeared to be in good shape, which means it was a driver issue. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
