Services for the LGCC go to independent contractors

All services at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Club will be contracted out. On October 15, City Council voted to dissolve the Lloydminster Facilities Corporation, which owned the LGCC.

The approval means food and beverage services, curling ice maintenance and golf pro shop services being contracted out, while golf course turf management will be handled by the city. Since 2010, the corporation has accumulated just over $1 million owed towards the City of Lloydminster. In 2017, the deficit was $316,000. Councillor Jonathan Torresan believes that the decision made by the council will achieve a standard that residents want.

“It still provides all the services that we want to be able to provide as a municipality and as a municipal service but it does it at a cost that is less evasive on the rest of the taxpayers.”

The City will be taking responsibility for the building and will run through Recreation and Culture Services. Councillor Jonathan Torresan believes the new model will fix the holes within the facility.

“So long as we can ensure that we have contractors and providers that are going to provide the same level of service, I think we’re going to end up with a facility that is just as fantastic as it has always has been and maybe has improved in some areas, and you’re going to get it that’s a little more palatable on the taxpayers.”

The estimated deficit for 2019 through the new model will be $220,000. The new model will take effect on December 31, 2018
