Friendship Centre calls indoor yard sale a success

The Lloydminster Native Friendship is calling its indoor yard sale a success. The centre rented tables for members of the community to sell their goods on from April 26-28. The centre’s executive director, Bonnie Start, says total funds raised were a little more than $500.

“Our point was to bring in a little bit of extra funding for the centre, and to provide a venue for other people to sell their things as well,” says Start.

Funds raised for the centre help support programming not covered by grant funding, like its morning and afternoon drop-in coffee. Leftover donated items were opened up for people to help themselves on. Start didn’t track how many came and went, but feels there was a great turnout. Many in the community also donated items for the centre to sell, which she says were very helpful.

“That helped out quite a bit, and we did have a pretty good response for table rentals. It was nice to have the community coming into the centre and supporting our activities,” says Start. She adds that they may have another one if there’s enough interest. The next community event is June 21 for National Aboriginal Day, and Start says she looks forward to sharing indigenous culture with the Border City.
