Rescue Squad bringing drive-in theatre back to Lloyd Mall

The big screen is back outdoors for one night. The Lloydminster Rescue Squad is hosting their 4th Annual Lloyd Mall Drive-In movie night on September 13.

The feature film playing this year is How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Admission is $20 per vehicle with proceeds going towards the Lloydminster Rescue Squad.

Last year, the drive-in raised $1,300 but Deputy Chief Ryan Leblanc says the event is more about engaging with the community than raising funds.

“The community has always been supportive and we’re thankful for that,” Leblanc says. “It’s always nice having the community behind you when you’re putting these events on and I’m sure the community enjoys coming to the drive-in as well.”

Leblanc says the squad thought about hosting a drive-in which featured movies with a higher age rating. But, he feels the family rated movies allows them to engage with a greater range of community members.

“It opens the doors to all the families in our community rather than just having an adult movie, we can showcase something that’s great for kids, families and everyone is able to come out and enjoy the show,” Leblanc says.

Leblanc says to get tickets early to guarantee a parking spot.

Kid Zone activities start at 4 p.m. with parking for the movie opening at 5 p.m. The movie will start when it gets dark, which is expected to be sometime around 8:30 p.m.
