Lloydminster is stretching to prepare for Kinettes’ Glow Run

This years Kinettes’ Glow Run is starting to get ready for Friday. 

Starting at 7:30 p.m., participants can prepare for either their run or walk and register. The run starts at 8 p.m. at Bud Miller All-Season Park. The starting line is behind the BioClean Aquatic Centre, then the path goes through the park and ends in front of the BioClean Aquatic Centre. 

The proceeds from the evening are evenly divided between Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the Kinettes Project Hope Scholarship, that gets awarded to a graduate Lloydminster.

Bayley Blackwell, Kinettes’ Glow Run Committee and member of the Kinettes’, says that they are encouraging people to dress up in costumes for the evening. 

“When you register for the event, you can opt-in to pay for a package. It’s just five dollars, and we’ll toss in a few glow sticks and some other stuff at that point, or we’ll have glow supplies for sale that night.”

Prizes will be available to win for first and second place in the 5K and 10K run. The group with the best costumes will also win a prize. 

Participants can enter a 5K walk if they don’t want to run. Last year, just over 3 thousand dollars was collected in donations. Blackwell says it’s important to donate to Cystic Fibrosis for the group. 

“This Glow Run started after a Lloydminster Kinette who had Cystic Fibrosis, actually lost her battle to Cystic Fibrosis. So, that is kind of where this ran started, was in memory of her, her name was Amie.”  

Currently about 45 people are registered for the run, but it’s expected for more people to join the night of. Lloydminster Kinettes’ are hoping to reach last years number of about 75 participants. This year’s weather is expected to be nice, the Lloydminster Kinettes’ are expecting it to be a nice and fun evening.
