Lakeland College confirms 2nd COVID-19 case, classes continue as normal

Lakeland College has confirmed a second case of COVID-19 on their campus but says the risk of transmission is low and classes will stay open.

The positive diagnosis was for a student at the Lloydminster campus, who was last at the campus on October 15th. The student is currently self-isolating at home, and to respect their privacy no more details about them will be released.

In the meantime, Saskatchewan Public Health is contact tracing with anyone who may have been in close contact with this person and providing them direction. Lakeland adds that if someone doesn’t get a call, it’s highly likely they were not in contact.

The College remains open to students or staff but still closed to the public, and they say the risk of transmission on campus remains low. People on campus physically are reminded to continue following steps like daily health checks, wearing a face covering when necessary, physically distancing and enhancing their hand hygiene.

If someone is sick or has COVID-19 symptoms, they should remain at home and call their medical practitioner or Healthlink 811.
