Over the weekend, the Tier Ultra Lounge restaurant and bar held a fundraiser for the Lloydminster SPCA.
Mardi Gras for Paws took place on Friday at the restaurant to raise money for the animal shelter and included a musical performance from Saskatoon band, Mabaleka.
Director of Operations and Community Relations for the SPCA, Jon Punshon said the event didn’t quite reach expectations. According to Punshon, though it was fun, it didn’t garner the crowd they were hoping for.
“But it was the first year [for the event], and it was also a really cold day,” Punshon concedes.
The lack of turnout, or adequate turnout, may have been even more disappointing to one of the organizers, Dana Crawford, who said one of the main reasons behind running the event was because the SPCA’s Jail ‘n’ Bail didn’t hit the mark in the first place.
“The Jail ‘n’ Bail just didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to this year and I was one of the people in a cage all day… we didn’t raise nearly enough money,” says Crawford, who owns Groomer Has It in town and has quite a herd of animals herself, 6 in total: 4 dogs, a cat, and a mini pig.
The total fundraiser dollars from Tier aren’t in yet but the Lloydminster SPCA is always accepting donations. You can call the office between noon and 6 on weekdays.
