Tip off leads to Vermilion area arrests

Vermilion RCMP say that information they got in July led to an investigation and prompted a search warrant for a home in the Vermilion River County area. The initial report concerned a suspected careless use of a firearm.

On August 1st at about 6 p.m., Vermilion RCMP along with Alberta RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and Kitscoty officers, searched a property near Township Road 490 and Range Road 50.

Three adults were arrested without incident. Police seized suspected methamphetamine, a prohibited firearm and alleged stolen property was recovered.

Thirty-five year old Jesse Aram Mark Aliferis of Vermilion is facing several charges including alleged identity theft, careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm when unauthorized, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, three counts of possession of controlled drugs and substances, possession of illicit cannabis and charges related to credit cards.

Aliferis was remanded in custody and transferred to the Edmonton Remand Centre. He is scheduled to appear in the Vermilion Provincial Court on August 10.

Twenty-three year old Murray Mackenzie Young of Vermilion was charged with failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released. Murray Young is scheduled to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on August 16.

The third person arrested was a woman who was later released as officers determined she was not involved.
