New childcare facility nears completion at former bus depot

Residents in Recovery is updating on the progress of its childcare centre as the project nears completion with a September launch in sight.

Fundraising for the project is at the halfway point of a $100,000 goal. Community members can support the brick buying fundraiser and pitch in on the Residents in Recovery website.

Work is underway to transform the old Greyhound Bus Depot, and the non-profit that champions recovery from addictions is getting closer to opening a state-of-the-art facility. The newly renovated space will become the Children’s Resource Centre, a licensed Alberta childcare facility with capacity for 60 children.

The centre is designed to serve both the Residents in Recovery Family Treatment Program and the broader community. Half of the available spots will be reserved for children living within the treatment program, while the remaining spaces will be open to families across Lloydminster.

What sets this facility apart is its focus on supporting children with neurodiverse challenges. With 90 per cent of children in the Residents in Recovery program facing such challenges, the organization saw a clear need to create a space for their developmental and emotional needs.

The Children’s Resource Center aims to provide specialized care and support, helping children thrive in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Families interested in subsidized spots are encouraged to contact Residents in Recovery by email: roxy@rinr.ca.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
