Central Suite Hotel installs new mural

A new mural in downtown Lloydminster is catching eyes in the alleyway behind Central Suite Hotel on 49 Street and 50 Avenue.

The imagery captures everything from Lloydminster’s industries, the northern lights and its people.

Commissioned by the hotel’s, Nalie Kim, artist Harwell Teves took on the task with the hot sun at his back and sometimes rain affecting his artwork, but the clear coat is finally dry on the end product. The Lloydminster artist who has three murals in the city had to use a lift to take him nearly to the top of the back wall of the building.

Kim is very pleased with the project.

“I wanted to have a mural that was distinctly local to us. Similar to the design concept that we did in the lounge when we renovated the lounge here a couple years ago.”

Making it local to Lloydminster, Kim adds “we have a lot of great things that we can celebrate.”

“We are pretty happy with it. Harwell did a great job. Obviously he battled the weather restrictions. But he championed through it.”

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
