Buffalo Trail Public Schools prep for return to school after teachers’ strike

Buffalo Trail Public Schools (BTPS) is preparing to welcome students and staff back to classrooms this Wednesday, October 29, following the Alberta government’s passage of the Back to School Act on Tuesday, Oc. 28.

The legislation, introduced on October 27, 2025, officially ends the province-wide teachers’ strike and mandates a return to work for educators across Alberta.

BTPS says it is excited to reopen its schools, buses, and classrooms, emphasizing the return of learning, connection, and community—the heart of its school division.

What Families Need to Know:

  • Classes resume Wednesday, October 29 for all students, teachers, principals, and assistant principals
  • BTPS bus routes will also resume on the same day. Bus drivers will be in contact with families to confirm pickup details
  • School-specific updates will be shared in the coming days as schools finalize plans
  • Provincial exams: BTPS is awaiting further guidance from Alberta Education regarding diploma exams and provincial achievement tests. Updates will be provided as soon as they are available
  • Calendar adjustments, if necessary, will be communicated directly to families

BTPS encourages families to stay connected with their schools and check official channels for the latest updates. The school division operates 26 schools just west of Lloydminster.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
