Lloydminster and Lashburn students serving on Saskatchewan Youth Council

Holy Rosary High School Lloydminster-student Maegan Davies along with Lashburn High School’s, Kendyl Wilson have been appointed to the Saskatchewan Youth Council for the 2026-27 school year.

Maegan found out in early summer that she was appointed to the provincial body. She has been a member of the Lloydminster Youth Council for three years and is serving as the vice chair.

“I’ve definitely seen myself grow as a leader through all of those opportunities,” says Davies. “Most noticeable are confidence in my opinions mostly, and in myself and knowing this is how I feel and this is what I want to share.”

Davies sees that what she will bring to the 12-member provincial body will have value. Already the perspectives being shared are eye-opening for the Lloydminster student.

“One of my favorite parts of the Sask Youth Council was actually getting to hear the different experiences and opinions of everyone else and understanding they have a very different school than what I have and they are small-town communities, really different than the kind of community that we have in Lloyd.”

With a year to serve on the provincial body, Davies reflects on the first meeting.

“It was really great to just meet the other kids and see like the variety of kids that they have from different backgrounds and cultures.”

The grade 12 student has company from this area as Lashburn High School’s, Kendyl Wilson, also in grade 12 is on the Council. Kendyl is an avid hockey and sports lover. Maegan relishes a passion for agriculture, stewardship, and music.

The Youth Council was established in 2019 to give Saskatchewan students aged 16 and older a direct voice with the Ministry of Education. School divisions, eligible independent schools, historical high schools and the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre can nominate students to participate.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
