SHA launches new emergency services disruption notification system

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is rolling out a new province-wide notification process for emergency service disruptions, aimed at improving transparency and access to timely information for patients and communities.

Starting early November, all emergency service disruptions—regardless of duration—will be posted publicly on the SHA website. Updates will occur daily at 4:00 p.m., seven days a week.

“The SHA is committed to providing patients, families and communities with reliable and accurate information about the availability of emergency services,” said Derek Miller, Chief Operating Officer of the SHA. “These changes will ensure that accurate and reliable information about service availability will be consistently available to the public while our teams work to restore emergency services impacted by temporary disruptions.”

Features

The new system will feature:

  • Alphabetical listings of affected facilities
  • Daily updates at 4:00 p.m.
  • Facility-specific notices on individual SHA location pages

Support – call Healthline 811

To support the rollout, internal processes have been enhanced to improve data accuracy and support staff reporting local disruptions.
While some disruptions may not appear immediately online, signage will be posted at affected facilities, and updates will follow in the next scheduled release. For real-time information, residents can call Healthline 811, staffed by Registered Nurses and health professionals.

Rural and remote emergency services

The SHA is also working toward real-time public updates and continues to strengthen rural and remote emergency services through initiatives like:

  • Virtual Physician Program
  • Point-of-Care Testing
  • Health-care workforce strategies

In any life-threatening emergency, residents are reminded to call 9-1-1. Paramedics will assess, treat, and transport patients to the nearest available medical site.
