The fifth edition of the Kindness is Sweet Donut fundraiser is on with kids from Mother Teresa serving up their baking designs via Sobeys to turn the sweet treats into some $11,000 for local non-profits.

Donuts will be on sale in three rounds, with each segment featuring fresh student-designed donut treats:
- Feb. 1-5
- Feb. 6-10
- Feb. 11-15
“The campaign name is Kindness takes Flight – the Fifth Donut Mission,” says Paige Kindopp, school organizer at Mother Teresa Early Childhood Education Centre.
Each class at the school creates a donut design which is then taken to the Sobeys bakery to recreate the final savoury treat. The school community will vote to decide which groups will benefit from the fundraising.
“Half of the proceeds go to local organizations in Lloydminster.”
New this year is the Kindness is Sweet Clothing Campaign.
“T-shirts are $25 and crewnecks and hoodies are $40,” says Kindopp. Orders can be placed online at KoLab Print Company.
Donut pre-orders can be placed online.
“We’ve seen lots of businesses purchase donuts for their workplace,” notes Kindopp and she beams of workplaces challenging to one-up each other in sweet generosity. “Lots of businesses have challenged each other which is super nice.”
Local Organization Fair – Jan. 27
The Local Organization Fair takes place on Jan. 27 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Mother Teresa School. Twelve groups are scheduled to set up information tables and make their pitch to the school community in hopes of being voted to receive funding from the donut sales.
“These are organizations that have heard about the campaign and want to be involved,” says Kindopp.
The groups are:
- Border Paws Animal Shelter
- Lloydminster KidSport
- Lloydminster Region Health Foundation
- Midwest Family Connections
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster
- Border City Connects Society
- Catholic Social Services
- Lloydminster Public Library
- The Olive Tree
- Pets Purpose Animal Shelter Society
- SPARK Foundation of Lloydminster
- Lloydminster Rescue Squad
“Families come into the gym. They tour around all of the local organizations. They ask questions. The groups bring in some hands-on manipulatives that the kids can actually touch and look at. Then the families will actually choose their top three choices that they want to see the money from the sales of the donut campaign from Sobeys go towards,” says Kindopp.

Prime Minister’s Award
For all of the effort involved in the promotion, Kindopp was nominated for and received a Prime Minister’s Award in 2023.
“I would not have got that without the whole staff jumping on board and the community behind us,” notes Kindopp.
