The Vermilion Public Library is showing a movie titled “Any Other Way – The Jackie Shane Story” on Sat, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m.

Jackie Shane was a pioneering artist celebrated for her remarkable voice and electrifying stage presence. As one of the earliest Black trans performers in soul and R&B, she broke barriers and opened doors for future generations. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, particularly in Toronto, she became a beloved local icon known for sold‑out shows and a devoted fan base. Despite her rising success, Shane vanished from the public eye in 1971, sparking decades of curiosity and speculation about her life and legacy.

The movie will be held in the basement of the Vermilion Public Library, 5001 49 Avenue
Vermilion. Anyone ages 12+ is welcome.

More information may be obtained by calling 780-853-4288, or email: programs@vplibrary.ca.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
