Battle for Recovery in Lloydminster, March 27

Dubbed the Battle for Recovery, mental health and addictions recovery advocates are circling March 27 as a day where stories spark healing in Lloydminster.

The border city’s Battle for Recovery, presented by the Empower2Recover Foundation, according to event planners, is a day where community becomes family, and hope takes centre stage. At a time when many in the region are seeking connection, clarity, or simply a reminder that they are not alone, the gathering offers exactly that.

Courage, connection, and community

Hosted at the Border Inn & Suites, organizers plan to transform the venue into a powerful space filled with compassion and resilience. Attendees will hear from speakers whose journeys illuminate the triumphs, struggles, and unwavering courage that shape the road to recovery.

Honouring Every Pathway to Recovery

The Battle for Recovery stands on the belief that recovery is not one-size-fits-all — it is deeply personal. Every story, every journey, every step forward matters. Whether someone is taking their first step, their hundredth, or supporting a loved one along the way, this event recognizes each pathway with compassion and respect.

If you’re in recovery, supporting someone you love, working in mental health, or simply seeking inspiration — this day meets you where you are.

Speaker line-up

The seven-hour event opens at 9:00 a.m. with welcome remarks from Betty Nippi-Albright, Saskatchewan NDP shadow minister for mental health & addictions.

The keynote feature speaker is Tyler Lorenz, founder of Residents in Recovery and celebrating 10 years of freedom from active addiction.

Several other speakers will share their journey during the day, including Vera Koster, clinical director at Thorpe Recovery Centre, Chantel Huel, advocate for Indigenous peoples seeking recovery, and carl Snyder with Teen Challenge Canada.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
