With spring approaching, the Saskatchewan government is reminding anglers that all current fishing licences expire on March 31. Officials encourage anyone without auto‑renewal set up through their HAL account to update their settings early in the season to ensure they’re ready once fishing conditions improve.
Licences can be renewed online through a HAL account, at any provincial angling licence issuer, at select Government of Saskatchewan field or park offices, or by calling 1‑855‑848‑4773 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Phone orders require up to 10 business days for delivery.
New Habitat Certificate requirement for 2026‑27
A significant change is coming for anglers this year: the new Angling Habitat Certificate will be required for all 2026‑27 licences. Annual licences will include a $20 certificate fee, while one‑ and three‑day licences will include a $5 fee. The program expands the conservation‑funding model already in place for hunters, who currently purchase a Wildlife Habitat Certificate.
Anyone who buys both an annual angling licence and a hunting licence in the same year will only need to purchase one Habitat Certificate. Revenue from the program will go to the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund, supporting key fisheries initiatives such as modernization of the Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery—which stocks public waterbodies across the province—and efforts to prevent aquatic invasive species.
Exemptions
As before, Saskatchewan residents who are under 16, over 65 as of April 1, or veterans are exempt from purchasing an angling licence and will also be exempt from the Habitat Certificate requirement.
