Photo Speed Enforcement returning to Saskatchewan in August with new cameras

Photo speed enforcement is set to resume across Saskatchewan in August after SGI secured a new vendor for the program. According to the news release, Global Traffic Group Ltd. will take over operations of the province’s photo speed enforcement program..

SGI says motorists can expect the program to operate much the same as before. Photo speed enforcement will remain limited to previously approved locations, signage identifying enforcement zones will stay in place, and fine amounts will not change.

New equipment

The biggest change will be the equipment used. Existing camera boxes will be retired and replaced with pole-mounted cameras. SGI noted there are no new enforcement locations being added as part of the transition, although camera placement may be adjusted slightly within existing approved zones.

The Crown corporation says the program is designed to improve road safety by encouraging drivers to slow down in high-speed and high-risk areas, with the goal of reducing collisions, injuries and fatalities.

While the new cameras are being installed, police will continue enforcing speed limits throughout Saskatchewan.

So far this summer, Saskatchewan has recorded 23 fatal crashes resulting in 27 deaths. That’s a 77 per cent increase in fatal collisions and a 108 per cent increase in fatalities over the same period last year.

Photo speed enforcement in work zones

SGI also noted that photo speed enforcement in work zones has continued operating without interruption during the transition. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and slow down in designated enforcement areas.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
