Wilton police get $20K STAR grant from Saskatchewan

Wilton’s police service is set to receive $20,000 from the Saskatchewan government under the Small Town and Rural Police Services (STAR) Grant Program.

The funding, part of the province’s 2026–27 fiscal year, was announced Wednesday, April 8, by Community Safety Minister Michael Weger during a media event at the Rural Municipality of Corman Park office in Saskatoon.

The STAR program is providing $190,000 to police services serving rural municipalities across the province.

Wilton’s allocation will support two officers, helping offset the rising costs associated with modern policing.

Chief Administrative Officer, Jill Parton says the funding is intended to support overall policing operations.

“It helps offset costs such as equipment, training, and day-to-day operational expenses, and provides greater flexibility to maintain service levels in a rural setting. While it is not currently earmarked for a single specific initiative, it contributes to strengthening proactive policing, supporting response capacity, and enhancing community safety.”

In addition to Wilton, funding is being distributed to several other rural police services, including Corman Park Police Service (CPPS), which will receive $110,000 to support 11 officers. Vanscoy will receive $30,000 for three officers, Dalmeny will receive $20,000 for two officers, and Luseland will receive $10,000 for one officer.
