Border City Connects is bringing back its Play It Forward 12‑Hour Charity Hockey Game for a fifth year, taking over the new Cenovus Energy Hub for a full day of hockey in support of local community services on Friday, April 17.
The round‑robin tournament runs from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., featuring 48 players and two referees. Teams will rotate throughout the day, with each player skating for a total of six hours. Scores will be tracked all day, leading to a winning team announced at the final buzzer.
Donations being accepted
Funds raised go toward Border City Connects’ greatest needs, helping support essential programs like accessible and non‑emergency transportation. These services assist seniors and individuals with mobility, intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing rides within Lloydminster and the surrounding area, as well as longer medical trips to places like Saskatoon, Edmonton and Camrose. Donations also help make outdoor recreation and inclusive activities more accessible.
So far, the event has raised just over $29,000, with more donations expected before the final whistle Friday night.
There’s also an online silent auction.
Live stream and in‑person viewing
The entire event will be live‑streamed, with score updates, interviews and stories from people and organizations in the community. Fans are also encouraged to attend in person to cheer on players or stop by the registration desk to donate.
Organizers say fundraisers like Play It Forward are vital to ensuring Border City Connects can continue providing transportation and support services to those who rely on them.
