Lloydminster Bobcats extend GM Nigel Dube through 2028–29 AJHL season

The Lloydminster Bobcats have signed general manager Nigel Dube to a contract extension through the 2028–29 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

Dube has led hockey operations since November 2018 and has overseen one of the most transformative periods in franchise history. When he took the role, the Bobcats were entering a full rebuild. Since then, the organization has re‑established itself as “one of the AJHL’s most competitive and respected programs”, notes the Bobcats organization.

Under Dube’s leadership, the Bobcats have built a culture centered on accountability, player development, and strong community ties. The team has consistently competed near the top of the league standings while developing players for higher levels of hockey.

The extension follows several challenging years that included navigating the COVID‑19 pandemic, adapting to changes across junior hockey, and guiding the team through its move to the new Cenovus Energy Hub from the Centennial Civic Centre.

Beyond on‑ice success, Dube has played a key role in the organization’s overall growth. His responsibilities have included strengthening corporate partnerships, expanding community engagement, overseeing business operations, and building strong connections throughout minor and elite hockey in the region.

Bobcats president Brent Mohrbutter says Dube’s leadership has been critical to the organization’s progress, noting his commitment to the team, the city, and the standards expected from a top‑tier AJHL franchise.

Dube says the extension reflects years of collective effort from players, staff, sponsors, volunteers, and fans. He adds there is still more to accomplish as the organization continues pushing to remain among the league’s top teams.

The Bobcats say they look forward to building on that momentum under Dube’s leadership for seasons to come.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
