Downtown Lloydminster construction ramps up, May 25 with infrastructure upgrades

Downtown summer construction will ramp up the week of Monday, May 25, says the City of Lloydminster. Weather permitting, crews will begin the next phase of the Central Business District Replacement Program, continuing a multi-year effort to upgrade aging underground infrastructure while improving the look and function of the downtown core.

Phase 1B will focus on 50 Street between 50 Avenue and 51 Avenue, including upgrades to the nearby intersection. Businesses will remain accessible throughout construction, with front access maintained at the start of work and back alley access available at all times.

The project includes replacing water, sanitary and storm sewer lines, along with a full rebuild of the roadway. Sidewalks, curbs and gutters will also be replaced, and new streetscape features such as benches, trees and waste bins will be installed.

According to the City, the work is aimed at improving service reliability, reducing the risk of unexpected disruptions and supporting future growth in the downtown area. Streetscape upgrades are also expected to make the area more accessible and pedestrian-friendly.

Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
