Show & Shine to rev up Saturday at Lloydminster’s Cenovus Energy Hub

The start of summer will see the event calendar packed with a lineup that includes the 18th annual Jus’ Kruizin’ Car Club Show & Shine, with extra space at the new Cenovus Energy Hub parking lot, on Saturday, June 20.

Organizers are catering for the food palette with more food trucks catering to sweet treats, hamburgers, and hotdogs.

New this year is Bonnyville Gear Grabbers.

“They’ve got a drag-race practice tree set up,” says club member, Kerry Million. “There’s going to be a contest for the quickest reaction time.”

Chairman, Gerry Duhaime says prize money and awards has been increased to over $4,000.

“Twelve awards and everyone is going to get some cash, as well as an award,” says Duhaime.

Lloydminster Comprehensive automotive students are making the trophies for the event’s awards.

Kids will get to enjoy the Make & Take Model giveaway which the club has had for many years.

“You come to the set up tent. Each kid gets a model car to put together. You have to assemble it there and then you can take it home. All for free,” says Million. “That’s being looked after by Big Brothers Big Sisters.”

Model cars cost about $25, explains Duhaime, compared to when they first started at a cost of $5.

Can-Do Auto is sponsoring the Match Box Races, where kids get to pick a car and race against a friend or relative on the track.

“If they win, they keep the car. If they lose, they pick another car and keep racing until they win, and then they get to keep the car,” says Duhaime.

The car club is grateful to all the community sponsors.

“Our sponsors are phenomenal in this town. We have over 70 sponsors,” says Duhaime.

With the new venue at the Hub, organizers are able to provide both participant parking for the vehicles on display and parking for attendees.

Maz Entertainment, who is providing the sound system, will also display the winning cars on the big screen when the results are announced.

The show runs from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with registration from 10:00-noon.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
