Alberta producers, researchers and industry representatives are being invited to Lakeland College later this month for a full day of crop production learning, field tours and networking opportunities.
Alberta Crop Diagnostic Days returns to Lakeland’s Vermilion campus on Thursday, July 16, bringing together leading experts, applied researchers and industry partners to discuss current challenges and innovations in crop production. The event will also feature Lakeland’s Cultivate & Connect initiative, showcasing crop and agronomy research projects currently underway at the college.
Dr. Francois Paradis, Lakeland’s dean of applied research, says the event provides an opportunity to share new agricultural technologies in a practical, field-based setting while strengthening connections across the sector.
The collaborative event is led by Alberta Grains, Alberta Pulse Growers, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Lethbridge Polytechnic, Western Crop Innovation and Lakeland College. Organizers say the goal is to bring knowledge sharing and innovation together on one platform through presentations, crop tours and networking opportunities.
Attendees will hear from Lakeland researchers Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Dr. Haider Abbas and Robyne Davidson, along with guest speakers from the Government of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta.
Nine presentations are planned throughout the day, covering topics such as pulse crop resiliency, canola agronomy, insect pest management, soil health, Richardson’s ground squirrel control and wild oat management. Participants can also earn up to 4.5 continuing education unit credits.
Industry partners will be on site with exhibits highlighting agricultural innovations, services and technologies for producers.
Registration is free, although organizers say advance registration is required. Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. at the crop plots on Lakeland’s Vermilion campus. Snacks and lunch will be provided.
