Lloydminster residents urged to contact ENU directly for non-emergency concerns

Details on when to contact the Enforcement and Navigation Unit (ENU) are being shared by the vice-chair of the Downtown Area Redevelopment Committee, Kerry Million.

The ENU was started this summer by the City of Lloydminster as one of its strategies to deal with social disorder, while also improving safety and support for unhoused residents.

It can be reached via text at 780-870-0440. The team includes a Community Peace Officer and a Community Support Worker who work together to help address community concerns and connect people with support services. The ENU patrols areas where problems have been reported, responds to issues when they arise, and connects people to social services and other community supports.

Homebase Lloydminster

One of the supports includes a partnership with Homebase Lloydminster (The Olive Tree) which will work with the ENU to assist people experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges with support services while also responding to community concerns.

Required information

Residents should text the ENU team with their name, a brief description of the situation, and the location where assistance is needed.

Million notes response times can vary depending on other calls the team may already be handling. However, responding to non-emergency social and community concerns is one of the ENU’s primary responsibilities.

Don’t duplicate calls for service

Residents are advised not to contact both the ENU and RCMP about the same non-emergency situation as doing so can create confusion and result in duplicate services being dispatched.

This allows RCMP resources to be available for urgent public safety matters.

Record keeping

The ENU documents its responses and reports information back to the City of Lloydminster. This process helps ensure people receive appropriate support while allowing the city to maintain accurate and consistent data on community concerns.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
