An in-person and virtual book club focused on grief, loss and healing is set to begin next month at Human Habits in Lloydminster, featuring local author Loretta Mitchell and her book, The Accident to My Awakening.
The five-session series will run Tuesdays from Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. Participants can attend in person at Human Habits or join online through Zoom, with recordings available for those unable to participate live. Meetings are scheduled from 12:05 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. on the designated dates.
The Accident to My Awakening
Mitchell’s book explores her personal journey through the loss of a loved one and the healing process that followed. Through the book club, she will share her experiences and discuss coping strategies that helped her navigate grief while offering support and encouragement to others facing similar challenges.
“We have hosted approximately eight or nine book clubs at our community wellness hub, Human Habits, and have seen the impact in coming together to grow safely in community,” said Crystal Gunderson, founder and owner of Human Habits.
Gunderson said the idea for the club grew out of discussions with Mitchell about creating a supportive environment where people could explore difficult topics and build connections with others experiencing grief.
“We believe whole-heartedly in the power of people serving other people and are grateful to Loretta for taking her tragedy and turning it into love, care and support for other people experiencing the same,” Gunderson said.
Registration is available directly through Mitchell. The cost is $120 and includes a copy of the book, while those who already own the book can participate for $100. Attendees participating in person will also receive a journal to support reflection and discussion throughout the program.

Copies of The Accident to My Awakening are available through Human Habits, Coles in LloydMall, The Crystal Emporium, and online or directly from the author via email: loretta6601@hotmail.com.
