Circumstances of Onion Lake rollover being examined by independent investigation

The circumstances which led to a fatal rollover near Onion Lake are being examined by the Regina Police Service.

According to a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, the incident took place on November 5, 2016, around 9:00 p.m. Police were conducting a check-stop program within the Onion Lake detachment area when a stopped vehicle left the check-stop at a high speed.

The release states that a pursuit then took place, but it was called off in order to ensure public safety.

The vehicle lost control soon after the termination of the pursuit, and rolled. The exact location of the incident is not given in the news release. The male occupant of the vehicle, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
