Non-profits receive donation from annual golf tournament

Local non-profits are receiving donations from this year’s Farm and Ranch Charity Golf Tournament.

In its third year, the tournament raised over $24,000. The money was divided evenly between the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Lloydminster Rescue Squad and Big Brothers Big Sisters Lloydminster.

Rolling Green Fairways runs the charity tournament using agriculture and energy industries as a focal point. General Manager Heather Walker says in previous years the tournament would give donations to the Olive Tree but this year they decided to go with BBBS.

“We just wanted to put in a little bit more for the kids in the community this year.”

“It’s really doing something good for the community so when more people find out about it and know about it, they’re more willing to give to it.”

Lloydminster Health Foundation’s donation will go towards the mental health-focused Project Sunrise.

“If you look at the farm and ranch community, the whole rural mental health, rural addiction and rural crime, it’s all top of mind right now,” says LRHF CEO Malcolm Radke. “They identified the importance of local mental health support in the region and we’re extremely grateful to that group.”

The tournament has raised a total of $58,000 for local charities and nonprofits in the community in three years.

“The more you do it the more you can put into it the next year so hopefully it keeps going in that direction,” says Walker.
