Mervin issues full fire ban

The RM of Mervin has joined several other towns in the area in issuing a fire ban.

The municipality-wide ban is on all open flames, including fireworks, burning barrels, smudge, recreational fires and propane fire pits with an open flame higher than two inches. Barbeques, tabletop propane heaters and propane heaters with a max flame height of 2 inches, Patio heaters and completely enclosed wood pellet fueled fire pits are still allowed.

The town says this is due to dry conditions with low humidity, and will not be lifted until the R.M. Council determines it is safe to do so. They add that they will pursue cost recovery from someone who lights fires during a ban.

Mervin joins Wilton, Frenchman Butte and North Battleford in towns that have issued a full or partial fire ban in the area.
