Freaky Friday breaks two-year hiatus for Lloyd Comp thespians

The two-year wait is over as young actors at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School will make a return to the stage in 10 days.

Simon Stang has been directing productions at the school for a decade and he says he needed a musical that could fit the demographic as well as challenge the talent of leading female actors like Maggie Sanders who is playing four characters in Freaky Friday.

“Lots of practice, going over them a lot and really focussing on how my characters would say it as their character, to distinguish between all of the different roles and lines.”

Sanders plays Torrey, Ms. Meyers the gym teacher, Savannah’s mom and Officer Sitz.

days before opening night at the Vic Juba Community Theatre on May 27th.

Drama teacher Stang shares that the cast is a mix of young thespians along with seasoned grade 12’s but still the nervous energy of returning to the stage is palpable.

“One of my leads was in ‘Mamma Mia’ two-years ago; she had a fairly large role, but she talks about the nerves of getting ready for a show. And when you haven’t done it for a while, you have to knock off the rust a little bit.”

Tickets for the end-of-month Freaky Friday The Musical can be bought at the Vic Juba Community Theatre.
