The ribbon cutting for the expanded Lloydminster Dialysis Unit is in the books as of Sep. 16, 2025.
The new unit with its six stations is already up and running and there is no longer a waitlist for treatment. Officials add that the aim is to utilize the full capacity of nine stations later this fall.
With patients already using the facility, officials took the moment to recognize the completion of the project with the team work of both Alberta, Saskatchewan, Lloydminster Region Health Foundation (LRHF) and numerous contributors.

“To Alberta Health Services and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, we want to thank you for inviting our foundation to be a partner in this incredible enhancement to our community. Contributions and collaborations like this will remind us of the vital role that local and public partnerships will play in the years ahead,” said Jeff Kerr, board chair of the LRHF. “We know that this has been a long journey.”
Some 15 years in the making, the final cost saw Alberta putting in $6.2 million and Saskatchewan providing the space in the Community Services building, next to the Lloydminster Hospital. This was instead of a previous proposal of having the facility at the Prairie North Plaza downtown, which was later downturned.
Ron Wiebe, parliamentary secretary for rural health north, noted the hiring process for the station to reach its full potential.
“Once staff are hired and onboarded later this fall, this new facility will increase the number of stations from six to nine. It will also offer more space and enhanced patients’ comforts,” said Wiebe.
Wiebe was high in praise of the LRHF and its donors who he said, ” have tirelessly championed the community’s health care needs.”
Dr. Lyle Grant, executive director for acute care in the northwest region of the SHA congratulated all the partners involved for their teamwork as they met to celebrate the opening of the expanded dialysis unit. Grant’s comments noted the next steps.
“Freeing up space in the hospital will support growth of some acute care services. Adding the Community Services building to the hospital campus also allows us to plan for the much-needed expansion of the cancer care clinic in Lloydminster.”
The new dialysis unit saw its first patients on Sep. 9. Its address is 3830 43 Avenue.
