Lea Park Bridge closed indefinitely for repairs

Starting Friday Oct. 17, Highway 897 at the Lea Park Bridge—located north of Marwayne—has been closed indefinitely to allow Alberta Transportation crews to carry out essential structural repairs.

Detour Routes & Heavy Truck Restrictions

  • Signs are now in place to guide drivers along designated detour routes.
  • Township Road 542 is off-limits for heavy truck traffic—such vehicles must use Highway 45, Highway 646, or Highway 893 instead.
  • All motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution in the area, with doubled speeding fines in active construction zones when workers are present.

Local Safety & Emergency Response Measures

To ensure continued safety and service levels in the region:

  • The County of Vermilion River Fire Division has implemented amended response plans for the Tulliby Lake area, adapting emergency strategies to accommodate the bridge closure
  • The Public Safety Division is increasing patrols near the closure and along detour routes to ensure compliance, enhance driver awareness, and protect local residents during the repair period

For updates check 511 Alberta or the County of Vermilion River.

The Lea Park Bridge was opened on June 13, 1958.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
