Downtown Lloydminster construction enters new phase as gravel hauling begins on 50 Street

Construction activity is ramping up in downtown Lloydminster as the City’s ongoing 50 Street revitalization project moves into a new phase.

Residents, businesses and visitors can expect to see increased construction-related activity over the coming weeks as granular mass hauling operations begin in the downtown core as part of the Central Business District Replacement project on 50 Street. According to the City, the work is expected to continue for several weeks and will lead to an increased presence of gravel trucks throughout the area.

The project is part of the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) and includes the replacement of aging underground infrastructure along 50 Street between 50 Avenue and 51 Avenue. Previous phases of construction have included water and sanitary sewer work, with additional underground infrastructure and streetscape improvements planned as the project progresses.

Gravel hauling underway

Motorists travelling through the downtown core are being advised to plan ahead and expect slower traffic movements and occasional delays while hauling operations are underway. The City is also reminding people to use caution when travelling near construction equipment and heavy trucks. Construction schedules remain weather dependent and could change based on conditions.

Benches and community notice boards

As part of the ongoing redevelopment, several downtown benches and community notice boards have recently been removed due to their deteriorated condition. The City says the amenities will not be reinstalled until construction is complete in those areas.

Downtown revitalization

City officials say the infrastructure improvements are intended to support long-term investment and revitalization in the downtown core while improving municipal services and creating a more attractive streetscape for businesses, residents and visitors. The City is asking for patience and cooperation as work continues.
