Lloydminster Hospital getting $5.9 million exterior upgrade

When the winter weather goes away, Lloydminster Hospital will begin phase one of a $5.9 million facelift. Substantial completion is expected by October 2027, noted the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

The Saskatchewan government is investing in the exterior building renewal project in an effort at protecting critical health‑care infrastructure and improving the experience for patients, visitors and staff.

Lloydminster MLA Colleen Young says work reflects the province’s commitment to maintaining safe and reliable health‑care facilities for the community.

“This work to upgrade the exterior of our hospital is a sign of the Government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to health care for Lloydminster and area residents,” Young said. “It ensures the hospital can continue to provide a safe, well‑maintained environment for patients.”

Two phases

The project will be completed in two phases. Phase one includes removing existing exterior brick, rewrapping the building, and adding new insulation to improve durability and energy efficiency. Phase two will see new metal siding installed and the replacement of approximately 180 windows, further strengthening the building envelope while enhancing safety, comfort, and long‑term performance.

Municipal reaction

Mayor Gerald Aalbers welcomed the investment, noting the importance of maintaining a strong first impression for those arriving at the hospital.

“This investment in exterior renovations is a critical step to protect hospital infrastructure in our community,” Aalbers said. “Improvements like these help create a more welcoming and reassuring environment for patients, staff and visitors. As our community continues to grow, we look forward to ongoing efforts that strengthen care for residents.”

The Saskatchewan Health Authority sees the upgrades as supporting both safety and functionality.

“These exterior upgrades focus on renewing essential infrastructure while improving the overall environment for patients, residents, visitors and health‑care teams,” said Julia Pemberton, vice‑president of Integrated Northern Health with the SHA.

Recent and ongoing investment

The exterior renewal builds on several recent and ongoing work at Lloydminster Hospital. Completed projects include elevator upgrades and the installation of a new bulk oxygen tank to enhance reliability and patient safety.

Work is also underway to install new chillers—critical systems that regulate temperature to protect medical equipment, maintain proper storage for medical samples, support infection prevention and control, and improve patient comfort—with completion expected by June 2026.

Additional improvements include recent loading dock upgrades, a bariatric room renovation currently in progress, and planning for a new healing and quiet space to better support patients and families.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
