Lloydminster Comprehensive student-athletes taking sports and careers to next level

Ten student-athletes from Lloydminster Comprehensive High School are moving on to post secondary schools and taking the next step in their sport careers.

The line-up comprises:

  • Allie Tobin: Lakeland College Women’s Basketball
  • Carsten Campbell: Revelstoke Grizzlies Junior Hockey
  • Jory Wagner – Lakeland College Men’s Volleyball
  • Kate Fink – Tarleton State University: Track – Hurdles
  • Lauren Moore – University of Saskatchewan: Rodeo – Barrel racing/pole bending
  • Rhett Romanchuk: Lloydminster Bobcats – Junior A Hockey
  • Skylar Heinrichs: Mount Royal University Hockey
  • Jamie Hensche: University of Manitoba Hockey
  • Sawyer Mackay: MacEwan University Griffins Hockey
  • Mya MacDonald: Arizona State University Hockey

Allie Tobin, who took up basketball in the past year, is taking university transfer courses and keeping her options open at Lakeland College.

“It’s such a great opportunity. I’m so grateful for this. I have only been playing basketball for a year. So, considering I’m signed on for a college team is crazy,” says Allie.

Carsten Campbell, is heading to B.C. to play junior hockey with the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

“I’m very excited, especially for the location. Lots of good scenery there and an opportunity to continue my hockey career,” says the left-winger.

Mya MacDonald is heading to Arizona State to study biological sciences and continue her hockey career with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The defenseman shares her goals as she heads south to play hockey in a warm climate.

“For hockey, I just want to get better, make new friends, and get along with my team mates. And for school, I just want to go somewhere with my education,” says Mya, who plans to become an orthodontist.

Lloydminster Comprehensive High School officials are expressing their pride in the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
