Lloydminster Kate Fink wins 400M national hurdles title

A Lloydminster track and field athlete, who is heading to the States in the fall, has won the 400 metre hurdles on the national stage.

On June 20, Lloyd Comp’s, Kate Fink, who hails from Paradise Hill successfully defended her Canadian National U20 title, winning time of 58.51 seconds. Her next stop could be Worlds with the team yet to be selected. The U20 World Championships will take place at Hayward Field, University of Oregon from Aug. 5-9.

Fink broke her own 100m record in the spring at the Northwest High Schools Athletic Association track and field meet. Hosted at Lloyd Comp, the athlete posted 11.80 seconds. She broke two other records in that meet. In the 200m, she broke a 34-year-old record, reducing it to 24.71 and in the 400m, Fink erased a 39-year-old record to 59.06 seconds.

Fink moves on this fall to pursue her NCAA Division 1 career at Tarleton State University, Texas.

The Canadian National Track and Field Championships took place at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa from June 17th to 21st, 2026.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story indicated Fink broke the national record. That record still stands at 56.55 seconds, set at the U20 level by Donalda Duprey, July 28, 1986.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
