Lloydminster’s Servus Sports Centre has three new defibrillators. The AEDs have been donated by the Government of Canada as part of a partnership between the Public Health Agency and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The 4-year partnership has been set up to distribute defibrillators to sports facilities Canada-wide.
Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright Leon Benoit says that defibrillators are essential for arenas where hockey and curling are played, since those sports require bursts of energy. The government estimates that by 2016, 2000 AEDs will be installed in sports complexes Canada-wide.
