The Lloydminster Sexual Assault and Information Centre is gearing up for the second Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.
The fundraiser is held annually across Canada to raise money and awareness about sexual assault, by having men put on red high heels.
“This event is really important to us at the Sexual Assault Centre,” Mandy Kratchmer, Crisis Interventionist, said. “We do see people every day who have been affected by sexual violence. Not only are women sexually assaulted, men are as well, so we are encouraging both genders to put on those red high heels and to just create awareness about this issue, and also have some fun with it.”
Kratchmer also says that there will be a party atmosphere at the finish line.
“We’re having a DJ,” said Kratchmer. “We’re also having the ladies at Elements come and do foot rubs again, so if you have sore feet you can come and do that. We have a photo booth set up this year too, and the food has been donated by the Co-op, and the fire department is actually serving it.
The walk will take place on Saturday, September 19, with registration taking place at 11 a.m. at the Root, and the walk kicking off at noon. To register ahead of time, go to walkamilelloydminster.com.
