LPSD gathers community, dignitaries to salute Unsung Heroes

The Lloydminster Public School Division has teamed up with the community to salute the staff that made education possible through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video project, called Unsung Heroes, was created by the LPSD, LCSD and Lloydminster Teachers Association. The series is three videos, each showcasing and agknowledging the impact teachers, educational support staff, bus drivers and maintenance staff made on students over the course of the last year.

LPSD Deputy Director of Education Scott Wouters says that the three boards had been spending a long time finding a way to highlight the staff and students who creatively adapted this past year and continue to do so.

“We have teachers that are engaging with kids online at home and in the classroom, and that poses an equal challenge to our high school staff as well, but again, every day, there’s things happening in the school and at home that we’re certainly proud of.”

The videos featured messages of support from parents, students, local business owners. Along with them were messages from local dignitaries like MLAs Garth Rowswell and Colleen Young, RCMP Inspector Lee Brachman, MP Rosemarie Falk and Mayor Gerald Aalbers.

Even though the video project production is completed now, Wouters encourages parents and community supporters to still reach out and show they care.

“You know, that little email, or that message in an agenda, whatever that may be, filling their bucket with those deposits is certainly appreciated throughout our system.”

People can watch the videos on the LPSD’s social media pages or linked below.
