Winmar donates large sum to youth centre

A local not-for-profit has received a large corporate donation.

On April 7th, the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre received a cheque for $50,000 from Winmar. According to Board Chairman for the Youth Centre, Les Hanson, the funds will be going towards the new Youth Centre facility.

“It’s going towards what we call our capital project, which is getting the new building up and running. Winmar was great. They came to us and said, ‘hey, how can we help?’ So, they not only cleaned it out, and did a beautiful job with that, but then they surprised us with a nice cheque for $50,000,” said Hanson.

Hanson also described a number of the new features that will be incorporated at the new centre, which he says, if all goes well, will be up and running sometime this summer.

“We’re going to be able to have a backyard; we’re going to have a firepit; we’re going to have room for pool tables, lockers for the kids, the homework facility; fully operation kitchen, rather than a hotplate, with the dining hall; we’ll be able to expand all the gaming areas and all the recreational space for the kids.”

Hanson says that like all not-for-profits, they’re always accepting of any help, and that the donation from Winmar means a great deal to the Youth Centre.
