Government of Saskatchewan Warning Residents About Driveway Repair Scams

The Government of Saskatchewan is warning residents about unsolicited driveway paving offers.

They advise residents that if a contractor comes to your door you should ask to see their direct seller’s licence number. You can then check if their licence is valid online.

Constable Grant Kirzinger says “if you do have somebody and they’re trying to solicit funds from you just be discerning. Ask yourself, do I know of this group, have I heard of them before, is this something that makes sense or not?”

Some of the red flags to be aware of:

  • The offer sounds too good to be true
  • High pressure from the contractor
  • You are required to pay a lot upfront before any services are completed

Tips to protect yourself:

  • Check the licence
  • Get everything in writing
  • Do not give a blank cheque

Constable Kirzinger adds, “if you would like you could always check with Phone Busters, they’re our fraud section that’s aware of different scams that happen, you can call us at the detachment and report it if you think it is suspicious.”

You can also contact the Government of Saskatchewan at 1-877-880-5550 or email [email protected].
