Winter weight season extended in Central and Northern Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Government has extended winter weight season for trucks in the area due to extreme cold.

Winter weights can still be used in Lloydminster and surrounding area, as well as in the central and northern parts of Saskatchewan until winter weather lets up. However, in the southern parts of Saskatchewan winter weight season has ended as of 12:01 Thursday morning.

Winter weight is usually removed from trucks this time, during a fragile thaw period on the roads. On some roadways loads must also be reduced 10 to 15 percent more.

The annual weight increase on highways in Southern Saskatchewan is also being changed, with only secondary weights being permitted on these roadways from from March 16 to June 14, 2018. Northern Saskatchewan will remain unchanged, with dates running from April 1 to June 30, 2018. Primary weights will be allowed for the other nine of the year.

Farmers, truckers and shippers can continue to check the winter weight status online.
