St. Joseph School looking for funding for outdoor classroom

St. Joseph Elementary School wants residents to vote for their outdoor classroom in order to win funding to complete the project. The outdoor classroom will allow teachers to take learning outside and will incorporate garden boxes to grow healthy foods and a pergola for classes to learn under.

The idea currently has over 900 votes with a day left before voting officially closes on Thursday. The school has raised almost half of the $65,898 needed. The rest of the funding, if the idea wins, will be provided through the Aviva Community Fund.

The project is in its second phase of three. It will be a place students can enjoy during recess and by the Lloydminster community after hours. The space will also be taken care of by students that will see them doing things such as maintenance.

The school hopes to the classroom will connect their students with a neighbouring seniors’ condo building and give the residents of that building the space to enjoy.

Each voter has a total of 10 votes they can use before the deadline.
