Run for Lloydminster donates to Project Sunrise

Participation was up for this years Run for Lloydminster, but less was donated.

The 2nd annual Run for Lloydminster took place over the weekend at Bud Miller All-Season Park. This year’s cause was to collect donations for Project Sunrise, supporting mental health.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community created this run to support causes within Lloydminster. Mansoor Azeem, Imam of the Baitul Amaan Mosque, says that around 8,000 dollars was collected.

“This is our major event in our calendar. Every year, we are going to raise some funds for the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation and for our city. We believe that whatever we will collect here in Lloydminster will not go anywhere else, but it will be spent in Lloydminster.”

Attendance was up this year to 155 participating in the run. However, donations were down 4,000 dollars this year. The first year, donations went to the Lloydminster Hospital to purchase a ophthalmology microscope.

“That was what the run was for, to raise awareness for the mental health: and the net proceedings will actually, the collection, will go to the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation for the project, Project Sunrise,” says Azeem.

This year, they chose Project Sunrise. Project Sunrise was created to help Lloydminster and area better understand mental health. It also builds the readers skills to identify people that are suffering from mental health and how to help them.

The CEO of Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Malcolm Radke, says the reason that Azeem choose Project Sunrise is because he sees how people struggle and need mental health resources.

“It’s a huge honour that they selected us. There’s a lot of noteworthy causes out there, that community access in our community. So, for them to pick us out of everybody else in the community is a huge honour.”

Run for Lloydminster will continue in the upcoming years to help support the Boarder City.
