Local mosque to hold open house

The local branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community wants Lloydminster residents to come tour the mosque.

The new mosque of the local chapter was recently inaugurated by the worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim faith, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad. In the wake of the caliph’s visit, an open house is being held down at the mosque this Sunday.

The open house will take place between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The mosque is located at 4530 50 Street, on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster.

According to a press release issued by the mosque, everyone is welcome to attend the open house.

“We believe events such as this create pluralism in society and bridge the gaps between communities,” stated the release.

Tariq Azeem, the imam of the local chapter, said residents can stay as long as they like at the function.

“If someone only has five to ten minutes, it would still be a good opportunity to learn new faiths and new cultures even in that brief time,” said Azeem.

Azeem also indicated events like the open house would help educate others about the Ahmadiyya faith, and those who follow it.

“There are always some people, who without learning, assume things, so that’s why each time events are held some people always try to come out and educate themselves,” said Azeem.

“Such events are good for this reason. Once we learn about someone, then we become more comfortable with them in our society.”
