Food banks getting grants from Alberta government

The Lloydminster Salvation Army, Olive Tree and the Wainwright food banks are recipients of grant funding from the Alberta government.

This as the province is divvying up $20 million over two years to support the work of food banks across Alberta. Since last November half of that money has already been distributed to 210 organizations.

The Lloydminster Salvation Army and the Olive Tree Centre are each getting $40,000 in the latest grant offering while the Wainwright Battle River food bank is to receive $15,000.

The Wainwright food bank services the Town of Wainwright and the MD of Wainwright. The staff help some 200 households each month.

Meanwhile, the Salvation Army in Lloydminster continues to have more people seeking its services on a weekly basis and maintains programs to families as well as students in schools.
